Chair of Dermatology

University of Massachusetts Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care

Worcester, MA – University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) and UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) seek a collaborative and dynamic physician executive to serve as the next Chair, Department of Dermatology. This is an extraordinary opportunity for a Dermatology physician leader to expand clinical programs, advance the academic mission and elevate research at one of the nation's leading medical schools and academic medical center.

UMMS, one of the most prominent medical schools in New England, is deeply rooted in its educational goal of providing quality medical, research and nursing education to its students. Beyond its core mission of distinction in medical education, the past decade has seen UMMS explode onto the national scene as a major center for research. The institution also ranks near the top among public medical schools in the Northeast in the amount of funding awarded by the National Institutes of Health. UMMS' clinical partner, UMMHC, is the largest healthcare system in Central and Western Massachusetts, featuring three acute care hospitals and a wide array of clinical services ranging the entire continuum of care.

Reporting directly to both Dr. Terrance Flotte, Provost & Executive Deputy Chancellor, UMMS/Dean, School of Medicine and Dr. Eric Dickson, Chief Executive Officer of UMMHC, the Chair will guide the Department of Dermatology to the next level through growth and advancement of clinical programs (i.e. Pediatric dermatology and cosmetic dermatology), education, and scholarly activity. The Chair will build on the Department's existing strong clinical foundation and expand research activity throughout the Department, while carrying on the Department's legacy as a preferred destination for residents and fellows. This individual will be dedicated to the delivery of the highest quality patient care and consistency in clinical care standards, driven by patient safety requirements and clinical outcomes monitoring. They will support the transformation of care delivery advancing a culture of excellence.

The successful candidate will be an experienced academic leader with a reputation as an outstanding clinician, researcher and educator. They will have a passion for academic medicine and providing an environment conducive to advancing the academic mission as well as experience working in an integrated clinical program. The next Chair will be an individual who is committed to providing superior care, and a desire to improve systems and processes to reach UMMS and UMMHC goals. The next chair will also be an accomplished researcher with a demonstrated record of scholarly and professional accomplishments as well as a record of faculty and trainee mentorship.
